Thanksgiving 2025 Handmade Dinnerware and Tablescape Decorations

Motivated by a fantasy to replace my commercial dinnerware with something completely custom and handmade, I started working on this dinnerware set back in July. It was an incredible learning experience, with tons of trial and error. The first plates I made were heavy, clunky, and very warped. I have a stack of about 15 plates that didn't make the cut, both for their clumsy forms and for the glazes I tested before I settled on this look for the final set. I made the plates as well as the wine tumblers, candlesticks and the footed centerpiece bowl. The glaze used on the plates is Satin Oribe by Amaco, the glaze on the candlesticks is speckled satin by Spectrum, the glaze of the tumblers is Cenote by Mayco, and the glaze on the footed bowl is Chai Matte Shino by Amaco.  I used hydrobat hump molds to form the plates using a hybrid slab and wheel technique, where I rolled out a slab and draped it over the mold, then moved the mold onto the wheel where I attached a foot.
