As is our new tradition, we took the first week of June to celebrate my birthday with a week long trip. This year we traveled to Mystic Connecticut and Newport Rhode Island, and it couldn't have been any dreamier. I love traveling the first week of June because it's before most east coast schools have let out, keeping crowds low, and the weather is usually just right for those east coast summer vibes without being too hot.
We spent two full days in Mystic and were delighted to find it full of small coastal town charm. It has a small downtown area near the historic bascule bridge, and a surprisingly robust foodie scene.
We arrived in the evening on a Saturday with just enough time to take a stroll across the bridge, past the shops on the main stretch, and grab dinner at Seafood Snack Bar, a lobster shack type spot that we returned to a few more times on this vacation. We ate crab and fish sandwiches, and two delicious bowls of clam chowder.
Amazing!
